Give Our NHS the Support it Needs

Posted on Sunday 19th April 2015 16:59 by Gordon Bain

The NHS staff are working hard to deliver the care we need but they need more support from the government. Our SNP and Labour representatives have failed to deliver on this. If elected I will be a strong voice, calling for both the Scottish and Westminster governments to protect our National Health Service.

There is no doubt that more needs to be done to support our NHS. Here in Scotland  key waiting time targets have been missed and unfortunately NHS Ayrshire & Arran was recently identified as the poorest performing health board in Scotland in relation to these targets.

The Liberal Democrats have a proven record in supporting our health service. During the last five years we have ensured that the health budget has increased year on year and we'll continue to do more. The Lib Dems have set out plans to deliver an increase of at least £8bil per year to the NHS by 2020, funded by ensuring those who have the most pay their fair share.

I will also proudly continue my support of the Lib Dem campaign to protect children from secondhand smoke in cars and I will for the campaign to tackle the stigmatisation of  mental health.
