Greenwood Academy Exam Results

Posted on Sunday 11th December 2011 09:00 by Gordon Bain

This week saw the Irvine Herald publish an article relating to the poor results that Greenwood Academy students have been achieving. This follows a report drawn up by school inspectors that highlighted the school was under-performing compared with similar schools serving young people with similar backgrounds and educational needs.

Stop Cutting Education

Since the start of the credit crunch North Ayrshire council have made a series of cuts to the education budget that have been nationally criticized. Last year the council toyed with the idea of putting schools onto a 4 day week. Since then we have lost the classroom assistants that were widely celebrated as a success in delivering educational improvements by allowing more quality time between the teacher and the pupils in their classes.

Times are of course hard, and every council has had their budgets cut leaving many searching for ways to balance the books. However the young people of North Ayrshire are not in my opinion the people who should be bearing the brunt on the councils cuts.

I challenge to council to stop cuts to the education services that directly effect the quality of education being provided and instead look to cutting wasteful policies and red tape to save money.
