Kilwinning Sports Club

At Wednesday's full Council meeting a paper was submitted that recommended that Kilwinning Sports Club should be invited to present their amended plans for their new Pennyburn facility to the Council. The purpose of this is to allow the Councillors to decide whether the level of financial contribution agreed at this year's budget is still appropriate.

The inclusion of support for the Kilwinning Sports Club project in the budget was a Liberal Democrat proposal that was moved by the Executive and agreed unanimously by the Council. Commenting, Kilwinning Liberal Democrat Councillor, Andrew Chamberlain said,

Kilwinning Sports Club's project still represents more bang for the Council's buck than any project on the Council's capital programme. If the Council were to do anything to jeopardise the project and potentially throw away more than a million pounds worth of outside investment then in my view that would be a tragedy. An opportunity to stimulate the local economy with construction jobs and to provide an excellent new facility for people across North Ayrshire would be lost. That's why I'm calling for the Council contribution to remain at the level we agreed earlier this year.
