Scottish Liberal Democrat MEP Elspeth Attwooll campaigning against EU secrecy

Euro MP Elspeth Attwooll is urging everyone in Scotland to support a new petition, which will allow all European citizens a voice in Brussels.

Launched at the European Parliament, the European Citizens' Initiative aims to establish a legally binding mechanism, whereby one million citizens could propose concrete policy and law changes to the EU Commission, enabling them to directly influence the agenda of the European Union.

Elspeth said: "The Citizens' Initiative seeks to bridge the gap between the EU institutions, national governments and the people of Europe, who too often feel disconnected from decisions made in Brussels.

"Fifty years on from the signing of the Treaty of Rome, this initiative is a timely signal to Europe's leaders that it is only right for us, as citizens, to be able to shape the future of the EU. It is up to all of us to make it a success. Support this campaign and help us collect as many signatures as possible to put pressure on EU decision makers to implement this right.
